Here is Dennis Itumbi’s statement:
IEBC: A SYSTEM YA FACTS UPDATE
In March 2023, President William Ruto demonstrated his readiness to constitute the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). Therefore, the claim that he is deliberately delaying the formation of the commission is inaccurate.
In line with the law, the relevant bodies — including the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya, the Law Society of Kenya, the Parliamentary Service Commission, the Public Service Commission, and the Political Parties Liaison Committee — all forwarded their nominees for the selection panel. The President fulfilled his duty promptly.
However, the situation changed with the NADCO (National Dialogue Committee) process.
After NADCO, a legal dispute arose: Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper advocated for Koki Muli to join the panel, while the minority parties in Azimio supported Augustine Muli.
Let me put a little context, The political Party Liason committee forwards three names to the panel.
On 26th July 2024, and election was held, there were THREE clusters. Only one has led us to the current dispute.
Wiper had a candidate – Koki Muli – she lost the Election to Augustus Muli of The National Liberal Party. Augustus got 17 votes, while Koki of Wiper got 7.
This disagreement led to a court case.
Currently, there is a court order in place preventing any further action on this matter until it is resolved.
Once the legal issues are settled, President Ruto is prepared to take the necessary steps.
The panel will then proceed to advertise, interview candidates for commissioner positions, and forward their recommendations for appointment.
These are the facts. The delay is not due to inaction by the President, but rather to a legal process, based on an election dispute.
