This guy sells mutura in Nairobi’s Pipeline Estate. He claims that his monthly income is Ksh 200,000. Below is what he posted on our forum:

“ I graduated with a degree course in Commerce from Mount Kenya University in 2019.I moved to my brother’s place in Pipeline. That time he lived in a bedsitter with his wife. I he partitioned the house to allow me live in a squeezed place he called sitting room. He used to wake up at 5 am. Imagine putting on the lights at that time while I was asleep. Then leaves me with his wife.

While living with him, I started feeling comfortable. I had sent CVs to many companies but not even one called me for an interview.

It’s when I was playing pool I realized that there was a butchery which had a space outside. I had heard one of my cousins claim that mutura business is profitable.

I went and talked to Kamau, the butchery owner, who allowed me to take the space outside the butchery and start mutura business. He told me to pay him Ksh 2500 every month. That was in 2022.

I didn’t have money at that time. However, I could take mobile loan. I took a loan of Ksh 9,000 and borrowed Ksh 10,000 from my mother. This enabled me to buy items for the business and the opening stock

For the first 3 months my daily profits were Ksh 300 to Ksh 1,000 but over time, the income increased.

However, something happened in 2023.The butchery owner closed because he became so sick. I was forced to rent the house and occupy the business.

Since I could not sell mutura and operate the butchery at the same time,I employed my assistant who I am paying Ksh 20,000 per month.

My business has growing and I am now making on average Ksh 200,000 per month.I didn’t know that butchery business is such a profitable business. I forgot about looking for employment.
