Early Life
Sabina Chege was born in Murang’a County in1972. She hails from a family with a humble background. Little to nothing is known about her siblings.
Educational Background
Sabina Chege Attended Matu and Kinyona primary schools and later proceeded to join Mugoiri Girls High School, She is known to perform well in her academics. After she completed her high school education Sabina joined the Kenya Institute of Management, then then later she enrolled at the University of Nairobi to pursue a degree bachelor in Education and a postgraduate degree in communication.
Career
Sabina Chege is known to be a vocal politician with a fighting spirit; she has previously served as a member of parliament, representing people from Murang’a in the year 2013-2022. Before she ventured into politics, Sabina is known to have worked in the film and radio industries. In the film industry she was an actress and in the radio industry, she was a radio presenter. She worked with Kenya Broadcasting cooperation, Coro radio and Kameme FM. She later became the head of financial radio services at KBC.
Sabina has also worked for World Space Africa as a development manager where she was able to gain skills she would later need for her foundation which deals with women issues in the society at large and problems facing the youth. In her acting career she played a leading role as Rehema in Tausi.
Politcal Family
She was elected as a woman representative of Murang’a County in 2013 and got re-elected again in 2017 where she served until 2022. She was an Alliance party member, however in 2017 general election after she got re-elected; the party changed its name to Jubilee Alliance a coalition of several parties including Chege’s National Alliance Party.
She was nominated on her first term in parliament as the chairperson of Departmental committee on research, education and Technology and a member of the constitutional implementation oversight committee. Sabina has also served as a chairperson of the Parliamentary committee of health in 2017.
Sabina has sponsored the Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service Bill in 2019 which commercialized blood transfusion and create a new national body to coordinated blood donations nationally. The move was criticized by the Kenya National Union of Medical Laboratory Officers.
She has also sponsored the breastfeeding mother’s bill that would need employees who were breastfeeding.
Family
Sabina Chege is married to Maina Gathitu and they together have three children. She is the second wife; her husband is the former Kenya Dairy Board chair. He carried out the English traditional wedding and a traditional one later.
She has also had a fair share of drama, when the first wife to Maina accused her of stealing her husband though the polygamous marriages are acceptable in African Culture.
