My experience with boda boda loan from Mogo and how I repaid my loan

22

In 2021 I lost my job which was paying me Ksh 75,000. I was working in a hotel as a manager, the job was paying me well but it came to an end when another person was hired for my position and paid less. I was fired.

I stayed at home for one good year without getting any job. I sent like 100 applications but none got me a positive response. I am a married man with 2 kids who depend on me. With no source of income, I had to figure out what to do. After a lot of deliberations, I decided to start boda boda business for quick money.

I approached Mogo and they told me to pay either Ksh 39,000 or Ksh 32,000 deposit and I would pay the rest in installments. I had some savings in my Sacco. I decided to pay Ksh 39,000 for TVS boda boda.

After paying the money, I was told to pay Ksh 438 every day until I finish repaying the total amount. After applying on the website, I was invited to their office at Mombasa Road where I took was given my boda boda.

I started work immediately. Now my challenge was to raise Ksh 438 daily and also use some of my profit to feed my family and pay bills. I make Ksh 800 to Ksh 1,500 daily. Sometimes I make up to Ksh 2,000 per day. Though it has been rough on my side, the boda boda has helped me a lot because I can manage to pay my bills. I have already paid more than 3 quarter of the total amount and by next year August I will be through with repaying the amount.

When I applied for the loan, they requested the following details:

  • Down payment of Ksh 39,000
  • Provide 6 months M-PESA statement
  • To type in my phone *334#
  • Select 7 for ‘My Account’
  • Select 3 for ‘M-Pesa Statement’ – (6 months Mpesa statement)
  • Enter a new email address which is my nationalid@mogo.africa
  • National ID
  • KRA Pin
  • My age—they wanted me to be 20 – 65 years’ old
  • 1 guarantor

After providing these documents and details,I was given the boda boda.

One of the challenges I face is to pay the Ksh 438 daily. There are days I don’t make that money. To ensure that I don’t default, when I make at least Ksh 1,500, I made sure I have set aside Ksh 500 which I will be paying when I don’t make enough money. I make my payments through the Paybill number 7034211
