Yesterday there were protests in Nairobi and almost a million youths turned up to protest. But the aftermath is what has shocked Kenyans. Several shops were broken into and looted as police did nothing. Thugs took advantage of the commotion to break into shops. The breaking took place during the day and at night.
Njoki, who owns a boutique shop in Nairobi CBD lost a stock of Ksh 3million. She woke up to report to work only to find her shop empty.
A business owner along Biashara Street lost a whopping Ksh 20 million after his electronics shop was looted.
This is the second time thieves have taken advantage of demonstrations to loot. If this trend continues, things will get even worse. Youths won’t stop demonstrating because they are idle and the government has refused to listen to them. President Ruto has opted to use police instead of finding an amicable solution to the challenges facing the youth.
