There are many Kenyans doing business but you will be surprised that they come from very few tribes. If you want to venture into business in Kenya and partner with tribes, these are the most business-oriented tribes.

Kikuyu

Kikuyu is the richest tribe in Kenya and most of the population is business oriented. You will find Kikuyu anywhere in Kenya doing business, they are also available in other parts of the world.

Most Kikuyu earn their income through business. They have heavily invested in real estate, hotel, retail business and other types of businesses.

Somali

Somali tribe is competing with Kikuyu in business. If you go to River Road, Luthuli Avenue, Biashara Street and other parts of Nairobi, you will find thousands of Somali doing business. They are now dominating the electronics business, hotel business, clothes business and real estate. In Eastleigh, they are the majority.

It’s expected that in 30 years, they will completely outclass Kikuyu in Nairobi.

Indians

Another business-oriented tribe is Indian tribe. There are more than 100,000 Indians in Kenya. Most Indians are in hardware business, real estate and health sector. They own significant number of businesses in Kenya.

Kisii

Kisiis have ventured into many businesses. However, their main sources of income are real estate, farming and transport. Majority of matatus in Nairobi are owned by Kisiis.

Kalenjin

Kalenjin tribe is also good in doing business. They are known for doing farming especially dairy farming.
