National Youth Service Kenya pays trainees Ksh 2,000 to Ksh 3,000 during training. The period of training is 6 months. Upon completion, they are released to the society, others join the police force, others KDF and the rest are absorbed by various security companies in the country.
One of the benefits of joining NYS is that it’s easy to get recruited to the KDF or police force. You are given first priority.
Another benefit is that the rigorous exercise you do during training makes you physically fit.You are also being prepared psychologically for the tough life after training.

IT Expert—Ksh 50,000 to Ksh 70,000
Lecturer—Ksh 50,000 to Ksh 50,000
Senior Inspector—Ksh 40,000 to Ksh 65,000
Engineer—Ksh 60,000 to Ksh 80,000
Quantity Surveyor—Ksh 45,000 to Ksh 70,000
Chaplain—-Ksh 40,000 to Ksh 50,000
Senior Chaplain—Ksh 60,000 to Ksh 100,000
