Early life
Patrick Amoth was born in Alego Segere, Siaya County to the late Paramount Chief Amoth Owira. He attended Boro primary school in Siaya sub- county then went to Nakuru High school and the University of Nairobi. Information about his early life, his current wife and children is discreet.

Dr. Patrick Amoth is the acting Director General for Health in the Ministry of Health, Kenya. He is also the Vice President of the executive Board of the World Health Organisation (WHO), representing the African region.
He is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist of immense repute, Patrick previously headed the Directorate of Public Health at the Ministry, where spearheaded strategy development for the effective delivery of health services in all 47 counties in Kenya and was centrally involved in the inception and alignment of Universal Health coverage for the country.
Dr. Amoth formerly headed the Department of Health Sector Coordination and Intergovernmental Affairs, an assignment that was preceded by his successful stint as a Chief Medical specialist and Senior Deputy Director of Medical Services at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital Nairobi.
Dr. Amoth has had expansive experience in civil service having risen from a Medical Officer at Kisumu’s Provincial Hospital before becoming the Medical Superintendent in the former Kiambu District Hospital, now Kiambu County Referral Hospital. He also later served as the Director of Medical Services for Kiambu East and Kiambu West Districts, now Kiambu county.
During his stint in Kiambu, Dr. Amoth is credited with having had excellent managerial skills as well as robust and successful fundraising for the hospital, initiating various programs, and revolutionizing the infrastructural improvement of more hospitals

Dr. Patrick Amoth is a graduate of the University of Nairobi’s Medical School and had a Masters in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the same university. He also holds a Diploma in health systems management from Galilee College in Israel.

Patrick Amoth has been recently appointed as the Vice President of WHO, the executive board has pushed him to global stardom. This is a very senior post since the board is charged with determining the budget, programmes and activities of World Health Agency. Although the new position will not require that he works from the WHO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, but he will have frequent travels and attend meetings to discuss Africa health challenges and issues. Before the Covid 19 pandemic, Amoth was little known to Kenyans.
