How cement is stolen by delivery trucks in Kenya to weigh 46kg instead of 50kg

Lawyer Wahome Thuku has narrated how cement is being stolen by delivery trucks. He says that the drivers open the bags and remove 4 kgs from each bag, then seal them well before they are delivered to hardwares. When you buy the cement from the hardware, you won’t realize that they don’t weigh 50kgs.

Here is the full narration:

“IF you are in construction industry anywhere in Kenya this will shock you. Or maybe it will not.

The 50kg packet of cement delivered to you is actually 46kg. You better start doing random weighing even at your source hardware. Because cumulatively, you could be putting up a house that will collapse in two months

When the cement is purchased from Mombasa Cement or Simba Cement factories in Athi River, its will packed in 50kg.

Virtually all the lorries then check in at a “cement milking point” at a place called Sharom on Kitengela/Mombasa Road junction. The bags are offloaded, 4kgs drawn, the 46kgs are sealed and compressed with an air pump and resealed. The 4kgs are then packaged in new bags of the same companies, in 50kgs and sold.

My source even has the pictures and details of who, when, where, how.

Usually this happens with sand but extending it to cement is very dangerous for construction. Right this minute lorries are queueing there waiting to be milked then deliver to their hardwares.

And you know what, this is done with full knowledge and supervision of Athi River Police Station. And here I am not talking about police officers I am talking about police station.

So next time you order for cement, take 5 bags randomly and ask your hardware to weigh. Spread this gospel”
