YouTube is one of the platforms which Kenyan content creators are using to make money. With 1 million views, you will make Ksh 150,000 to Ksh250,000. This income is dependent on the source of traffic, length of your videos, niche, type of your video and geographical location of the views.

Normally, content creators in Kenya attract traffic from Kenya. All of them get at least 80% of traffic from Kenya. This means that their CPM will be low. CPM is the income YouTube pays for 1000 views. The income is usually Ksh 50 to Ksh200.

If you create content that attract most of the views from Europe and USA, you will earn at least Ksh250,000 from 1 million views. I saw a friend who got 1.1 million views and 60% of traffic that month was from USA, he earned Ksh 600,000. Another one had 1.5 million views and only earned Ksh460,000. Advertisers in USA pay more compared to advertisers in Kenya.

The niche of your content also matters. If your content is about making money online, Finance, Sports and Business, you will earn more money than those posting about politics and entertainment. 1 million views for the Finance niche will make Ksh 250,000 to Ksh350,000.

The length of your videos will also determine your income. Shorts will earn less than Ksh30,000 for 1 million views while videos which are 10 minutes long and above will earn at least Ksh150,000 from 1 million views.

The time your visitors take on the video will also contribute a lot to the money you earn. If your videos are so good and visitors take all the time to watch until the end,you will make more than Ksh200,000 from 1 million views. But if visitors just watch for few seconds and leave, you will hardly make over Ksh 100,000.
