There are a few individuals in Kenya who keep ostriches. The price of an ostrich is Ksh 150,000 to Ksh 300,000.It’s even more expensive than a bull. The reason it’s costly is because it can generate revenues for the owner as a tourist attraction asset or be sold to hotels. Ostrich meat is very expensive, a kilo can cost as high as Ksh 20,000.

Ostrich license in Kenya

For you to keep ostrich in your home, you have to get a license from the Kenya Wildlife Service. The license can cost Ksh 500,000 to Ksh 5 million depending on the number of ostriches to keep.

While applying for the license, KWS officials will visit your farm for inspection.

Ostrich profits in Kenya

A number of hotels sell Ostrich meat. One Ostrich costs Ksh 150,000 to Ksh 300,000.You can also sell Ostrich eggs which cost Ksh 2,000 to Ksh 4,500 each. The eggs are big and more nutritious than eggs from chicken. They are rare to get and only available at the Ostrich farm in Kitengela and few places in Kenya.

Ostrich food

Ostrich eats anything, from meat to vegetable to stones and can even swallow salt …it needs approximately 2kilograms of diced carrots, 2kg of kales 2kg of beetroots, 2kg of cabbage and unlimited supply of Ostrich stones and salts every day. You can also supplement the feeds by buying ostrich pellets costing Ksh 15000 for 10kg bag

You will spend at least Ksh 7,000 per month to feed one Ostrich.

If you buy a young Ostrich in Kenya today at Ksh 60,000.You will keep it for at least one year and sell for Ksh 150,000 to Ksh 300,000.The profit for one Ostrich is at least Ksh 50,000.
