Shocking difference for the cost of Range Rover in UK and Kenya—we are being exploited

The cost of a Range Rover in UK is Ksh 15 million while in Kenya the same costs Ksh54 million.A Kenyan has expressed his disappointment, saying that we are being exploited. Here is how we get exploited:

“In the UK, a 2023 Range Rover Vogue retails at USD 107,000 equivalent of Kshs.15 m. I checked at Inchape Kenya, they sell the same car USD 390,000 nearly 4 times the UK price. This is equivalent to Kshs. 54 m. If you breakdown the cost of parts – Inchape  cost would be as follows:

1. Body Kshs. 10,000,000

2. Engine and gearbox Kshs. 10,000,000

3. Radio and other electronics Kshs. 5,000,000

4. Leather seats Kshs. 5,000,000

5. Windscreen and all glass components Kshs. 5,000,0000

6. Labour in assembling the car Kshs. 10,000,000

7. Rims, tyres etc Kshs. 5,000,000

8. Floor mats, badge, lights, etc Kshs. 5,000,000

Prices includes , VAT, taxes, etc

After buying the car at Kshs. 54 m and you drive it out of the showroom you can’t resell the vehicle even at Kshs. 40 m. After driving it for 20,000 km the value drops to Kshs 15 m.

There is wisdom in buying second hand cars. New ones are extremely overpriced.

This is the reason why most Kenyans own cars with SSD number plates.
